'STICKY CHICKEN' RECIPE

Monday, 7 April 2014
Hola! My family, after a lot of convincing have decided to trust me a bit more in the 'kitchen department'. They did used to let me cook occasionally, but I may have given them reasons to not trust me, twice. Once, I was cooking my Dad some soup on the hob, and left the hob on for 5 hours, woops. Another time is when I was cooking, I turned the knob the other way, to low, so you couldn't see the flame. Instead of turning it off... My Dad then came in from work, and for some reason put his oily work trousers on the hob and one thing led to another and my Sister had to retrieve them. I thought it was funny, they didn't so much... They didn't catch fire or anything though, they just gained holes where they had melted. My sister now claims to have 'saved our lives' everytime the mention of me cooking comes around, it's rather annoying actually.

So every week, on a Tuesday evening I cook a meal for the family. As it was my first week, I wanted to redeem myself by cooking something simple but effective. We always eat the same meals: Pasta bolognaise, Curry, Chicken & bacon and Casserole. Everyone in my family are on 'The Caveman Diet' where basically, they can't things like: Bread, Pasta, Rice, Potatoes etc.. So, I had to stay clear of those. Another issue is that my Step-Sister is a vegitarian, so I had to make sure I didn't contaminate her Quorn with meat. I did the same for her to, just with Quorn Fillets not meat!

I decided I wanted something different, and I had 'Sticky Chicken' in mine. To be honest, I didn't actually know what it was, I had some sort of BBQ Rib sort of thing in mind, just chicken instead of ribs, I was wrong. To be honest, I still don't really know what it is, all I know is that it was VERY tasty!

You will need: (1kg of Chicken fillets and 2 Quorn Fillets)

4 tbsp of Soy Sauce
2 tbsp of Honey
1 tbsp of Tomato Purée
1/2 tbsp of Olive Oil
1 Garlic Clove (preferably 1 tbsp of Garlic Powder)
1/2 tbsp Ginger Powder
A few drops of TABASCO

This is sweet, so if you want it a little less sweet, lower the Honey levels to one, and if you want it spicier, add more TABASCO sauce. The reason it's better with Garlic Powder, as it's easier to mix in and marinate with.

Then what you need to do is mix all of the ingredients (bar meat etc...) in a bowl until it forms a marinade.
You then need to marinate your meats and leave it for a while, I left them for around an hour and a half and they were fine, preferably over night though, then you will get the fullest flavour possible.

Once you have left them for long enough, you can then start cooking them, use a shallow roasting dish, I don't know why, but that's what I used, then oven cook them on 180° for 50 minutes.

Here's some pictures!

Before it was mixed...

Raw Chicken, ew...

Raw Quorn...

Not too pretty presentation though... but I served it with roasted veg!

So there you have it! If you are going to re-create this recipe and have a food diary with My Fitness Pal I have made a recipe for it on there, its called Amy's Sticky Chicken pretty adequate! Haha!

My family really enjoyed it too, the Chicken wasn't dry and it was VERY yummy, I want more, but with more chicken next time! It would also be lovely with rice and more sauce to drizzle over? Or noodles? Ooh!

If you have any ideas that are simple-ish for next time I cook for my family, please comment them below, or tweet me? THANK YOU!

Amy

JAM TARTS RECIPE!

Wednesday, 5 March 2014
Aloha Beautiful people, we're going to try and do a 'baking post' every month! Is that a good idea? We LOVE baking, lets just say a lot... Haha. So today, we're going to show you our Jam Tart Recipe. This is really simple, especially when you're novices like us... and it only takes around half an hour all in all. You will need:

Jam (approximately one teaspoon per tartlet)
50g of sugar
255g of plain four
140g of marg or butter
6 tablespoons of water

This is for 12 tartlets (no tops). We doubled this recipe, and made extra pastry for toppers.

You then basically just do this:

Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 5
Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl and rub in the marg until it resembles fine breadcrumbs
add the water tablespoon by table spoon until it is a moist dough
Grease a cupcake tray and cut the pastry.
Put the jam into the pastry and add the toppers if you wish
Bake for 12-15 mins

Here are pictures!

So there's our Jam Tart recipe, let us know in the comments if you are going to have a go for yourselves, and if they were better than ours, they probably will be as we aren't too great... and very messy... haha. Also tell us what other things in future you want us to do, we'll try pretty much anything!

CAKE IN A MUG RECIPE!

Monday, 3 February 2014
Aloha beautiful people! Sorry we haven't posted in a while, we just ran out of ideas from posting so frequently, our bad!

So today, this post is going to be a cake in a mug recipe! This recipe is so quick and simple! It's great! you will need:
6 table spoons of self raising flour,
2 table spoons of milk
2 table spoons of butter or oil, oil works better,
1 egg,
3 table spoons of sugar,
Chocolate if desired

You then shove all of the ingredients together in a bowl, and cook for 5 minutes! If you take it out and its not cooked, then cook for longer, obviously... And remember that it won't be golden brown, as a microwave oven doesn't get hot enough for that chemical change to happen, wow, going all science on your asses... Haha.

Although it says 'cake in a mug' this recipe always is perfect for a bowl, what we do is bake in a bowl, then flip it over onto a plate! Or in several mugs? A lot of the chocolate goes to the bottom, so you are then greeted with melted chocolate on the top, mmm.

This doesn't look too great... But it tastes amazing, mmm!
So that is a quick post done, sorry again for taking so long to post! Hopefully it won't happen again! Do you like the baking posts? Tell us in the comments or tweet us (links page) if you like this sorta thing? Or what posts you want us to do? We want to get to know some of you, so speak up! Or type up? PLEASEEEE!

Also, a quick question: What is your favourite soup? We're having soup the other day, and I had Oxtail, whilst Megan had this indian vegitarian one, obvuiously, so we just want to know what your favourite soup it?

BLOGMAS DAY SIX: 5 SIMPLE WAYS TO IMPROVE FESTIVITY!

Wednesday, 4 December 2013
Hey There! DAY 6, WHAT?! Today's is going to be a bit different too, like yesterday, we will be doing a joint post! On how to do a few, five to be exact, little things to make your room/house look/feel a little more festive! Yay! These things do NOT cost a bomb and are super easy to get hold of! This time of year, you can get these five things form almost any store! Send us links in the comments to your blog, or pictures of your room that has a little bit of these things in!

1-    FAIRY LIGHTS! We are both obsessed with these and they improve festivity by nearly 100%, just drape these over curtains, along ceilings etc. To push the room even more festive, use warm white lights as these make things even cosier! Also, if your fairy lights can, set them to the twinkle setting, that’ll do the trick! Twinkling fairy lights always remind us of Christmas!

2-    HANG CARDS ON STRING! What do you do with the Christmas cards you receive from your friends/family? Well how about hanging them on string/yarn and draping them across the ceiling/wall? This will look SO much better than crowding them all onto the mantelpiece or sticking them all over the doors.

3-    CANDLES! We can’t stress how much we love these things! These are essential in any festive home! They are so cute! For extra points, buy a festive scented candle, we know Yankee Candles and Glade do some amazing Christmassy smells! BUT, you HAVE to be careful with fire remember! And don’t use if your parents don’t allow it, I know that Amy’s don’t allow candles in bedrooms, cause she’ll set the house on fire, and knowing her, she probably would! If you are allowed, then GO FOR IT!

4-    BLANKETS&CUSHIONS! Awh, nothing better than cuddling up under a festive blanket! And its perfect in the winter! Even better if they're super festive colours such as red, green, burgundy etc. These definitely make everything more Christmassy and more comfy! Cuddle up in these while you write your Christmas lists, or even your new years resolution!
5- TINSEL! You've got to love this stuff! So draping surfaces in this sparkly wonder will not only make your room look festive, but also reflect light making it sparkle! You can get all kinds of colours and themes and tinsel is SUPER cheap this time of year and you can get it almost anywhere! Even in Pound land!
So! here were 5 very simple ways to make you feel more festive this month! (and look it!) why don't you tell us in the comments what decor you have this Christmas, and when you put your Christmas Tree up, Every one has different days! Mine (Amy) is really sad, the day we break up from school, so the 20th...

We love hearing from you guys!
